Why Training?

As an early childhood educator, you have a significant impact on the communication development of the children you work with. Because the early years are the most important for brain development, the quality of a child’s experiences during this time contribute significantly to his or her ultimate success in life. In the short time that children spend in early childhood settings, they need to develop a strong foundation in two vital areas of development:

  • Social skills – so they can establish and maintain successful relationships
  • Language skills – so they can communicate effectively, develop strong literacy skills, and succeed in all areas of academic learning

In order to flourish in these areas, children need an environment that’s rich in learning opportunities, and in which staff engage every child in responsive interactions throughout the day.

To help early childhood educators create this kind of experience for the children they work with, I deliver several programmes based on the most current research in early childhood development.

My goal is to equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools you need to make language and literacy-learning a fun and natural part of every child’s day. The programmes show you how easy it is to enhance your children’s learning opportunities simply by adapting the way you interact with them during everyday activities and routines. In this way the approach and strategies become a natural part of your teaching style.

Training Options

  • Learning Language & Loving It™ Hanen Programme – An innovative, 10-14 week, in-service education programme that equips staff with practical, interactive strategies for building the social, language and early literacy skills of children aged 0-5.
  • Teacher Talk™ Hanen Workshop Series – A flexible series of 3 one-day training sessions providing staff with core strategies to create rich and stimulating language-learning environments, for young children aged 0-5.
  • Bespoke Training – Designed specifically for your setting, needs and budget.

fostering

People working with parents and carers of young children (0-5) often see the need to support and guide parents and carers in building nurturing and responsive relationships with children. I offer a number of training programmes for parent and carer groups that give the knowledge, tools, and strategies to do so.

Training Options

  • It Takes Two To Talk® Hanen Programme– a series of 6-8 training sessions designed specifically for parents of children age 0-5 who have been identified as having a language delay. In a small, personalised group setting, parents learn practical strategies to help their children learn language naturally throughout their day together.
  • You Make the Difference® Hanen Programme– a  parenting programme of 9 training sessions designed to prevent rather than treat language problems. It is aimed at parents of both typically developing children, and children who could be at risk of developing a language delay (through factors such as economic disadvantageand social isolation). The programme is appropriate for all parents including those with limited literacy skills or English as a second language.
  • Bespoke Training – Designed specifically for your group’s needs and budget.

Training Approach

.

I believe in learners being actively involved in the training process, therefore:

  • Groups are not too big so that all learners can participate
  • We use video footage of  adult-child interactions (on some programmes of actual participants), allowing learners to see real life examples of strategies in use
  • Participants are actively involved, carrying out practical tasks to reinforce learning
  • Participants discuss real life events from their settings and are supported in problem solving
  • Follow up coaching sessions are available to support staff in maintaining the strategies they have learned
